C-MOR released a new version, version 3.710 with improved support for Apple MacOS computers

Now users can select if they have a Mac computer. C-MOR builds Quicktime compatible MOV files and optimizes the web for Safari if this is enabled. The option to use the standard output with AVI and MPEG recordings still is available, too.

Another improvement is the Noise parameter for false motion detection alarms. If the camera delivers noise in the video (e.g. too low light) this parameter reduces false motion detection alarms and improves C-MORs motion detection reliability.

The use of video surveillance often brings up the question of privacy and security. “Privacy mask” offers users a convenient and simple solution.

“Privacy mask” enables C-MOR users, using LevelOne camera models FCS-5030 and FCS-5011, to hide and protect sensitive areas of video surveillance images. The new feature applies a black image mask to the areas in question and is therefore e.g. protecting personal rights of persons in the area under surveillance.

Video surveillance at workplaces requires adherence to the protection of workers' personal data on the basis of labor law. Thanks to the “privacy mask” solution, requirements by work councils concerning the protection of the employees’ rights through their employers can be met any time. This applies also to private use, e.g. at home: public sidewalks or neighboring properties are often recorded ignoring possible consequences concerning personal rights of pedestrians or neighbors. “Privacy mask” prevents recording of selected areas and allays the concerns of neighbors even before the start of a planned surveillance.

The application of private zone masking or the blocking of non-relevant areas was among other things developed for the protection of especially sensitive areas, such e.g. as sauna and changing rooms.

In practice a black image area applies the fading-out of critical areas. The user can flexibly adjust the mask for sensitive surveillance areas. During recording this area is excluded. During playback of a surveillance video or a single image this area will be shown with a black mask covering the sensitive area. The excluded area can thus not be displayed and the protection of anonymity is guaranteed.

C-MOR customers can look forward to comprehensive improvements and upgrades. From today the C-MOR video surveillance update version 3.65 is available. The latest version includes various new options of the settings as well as a new user right concept for video access.

With the new version the administrator cannot only grant overall access to cameras and videos to C-MOR users but can now also give rights only to user-specific selected pages. The administrator can now individually decide which user is granted access to the pages “Quickstart”, “Recordings” and “System Status”. Users can from now on only access pages they have been granted rights to. The new functions are highly appreciated by data protectionists and work councils. Furthermore user rights for password change can now be individually granted. That way guest accounts are easier to handle and enables individual configuration of each single account.

Until now it was only possible to grant overall access to cameras and recordings for every user – the new version allows individual rights for each user. By this means users can e.g. be granted the rights to the live view of an entrance but not to previous recordings while other users can access and analyze recordings any time.

Also now C-MOR will be preconfigured and delivered according to the wishes of each customer. This service offers every user an ideal turnkey solution, which can be realized with minimum effort. Furthermore the C-MOR installation team will guide electrical installations by an electrician via telephone or remote maintenance.

The planned future version will also include individual language settings for each user as well as a two-man rule password protection in order to even better protect privacy. The sophisticated display and platform independent software repeatedly facilitates the network configuration of C-MOR video surveillance.

The configuration of C-MOR video servers has never been complicated - but the new installation software is even user-friendlier. C-MOR’s latest innovation enables users to transfer customer-specific network configurations directly to the C-MOR in the network with just one click. A clearly arranged input mask and very clear and well-defined functions make it very easy for users to get their appliance started, even without any previous experience.

Currently all appliances are already delivered following the new setup-routine. The software, as well as the video server are fully operational on all operating systems and can be started without installation on any computer. In this way the software development team at C-MOR Inc. sticks to its principles of developing only software that does not require any additional software installation and runs without limitation on all operating systems.

„Our philosophy has always been to provide our customers with software and appliances that work smoothly on all platforms without any need for additional modification”, says Michael Reuschling, CEO of C-MOR Inc. Besides the simplified initial installation, also the support of already existing appliances has been facilitated for on-site technicians. In order to access C-MOR appliances the operator simply has to assign a temporary network address to the video server in the network.

Security still is C-MOR’s first priority: in order to be able to transfer a configuration to the appliance, a corresponding MAC address (unique identification characteristic for network appliances) and main password are mandatory.

A new Installation Tool will be released the next days. It will enable C-MOR owners to install C-MOR from a PC/Mac/Linux by simply entering the MAC Address of the C-MOR. The IP address will be configured on the C-MOR with this tool.

IP Video Surveillance with Alarm Systems

With the integration of a third party device, Barionet alarm systems can connect to C-MOR and trigger alarm signals to C-MOR. C-MOR generates alarm videos on that signal.

Surveillance systems with automated recording and analysis functions in Europe’s first experimental operating room ensure more safety and control

Tübingen, Germany 2008/08/23 – It draws a lot of attention among surgeons these days: Europe’s first experimental operating room.

Since the official dedication by Baden-Württemberg‘s minister president Günther Oettinger (Christian Democratic Union, CDU) some weeks ago, surgeons, medical technologists, architects, engineers and scientists have been continually coming and going. The room is 1000 square meter big and offers a unique and interdisciplinary prerequisite for co operations between numerous research facilities and industry partners, emphasizes general manager and initiator Ulrich Matern. “One of our main goals is to develop simple, intuitive and efficient dialogues between human-beings and machines“, the medical scientist explains and refers to the latest survey results among surgeons and nurses working at operating rooms. “70 percent of the surgeons and 50 percent of the nurses report of problems with the correct operation of the equipment – which can be disastrous for patients!”

Digital video cameras make sure you see the whole picture

In the experimental OR it is not medical procedures on human-beings that are carried out but the simulation of operations. This enables scientists to replicate and optimize procedures for operating rooms. “Ergonomics plays a significant role during in this process”, says Matern. Very often, force of habit is the reason for partial considerable time delay or operating errors on the equipment. In order to disclose redundancies and mistakes, the team of the experimental operating room employ state-of-the-art surveillance technique. Core elements are the C-MOR video servers provided by za-internet, a young and dynamic enterprise located in Hechingen, Southern Germany. According to Michael Reuschling, general manager and founder, the main reason for choosing za-internet’s technique was the smooth installation and operating process. “Our servers are homogeneous components of a wireless and wired network, including internet access provided by us“, explains Reuschling. The complete video software is part of the server operating system, configuration and access to the video data is effected over conventional internet browsers which renders additional software installations unnecessary.

Automatic motion detection with alarm function

„The use of dedicated video servers offers decisive advantages”, explains Reuschling. “Many video surveillance systems consist of cameras that have only been connected through a network server. The data of only two or three cameras with a few pictures per second can be easily processed by a high-capacity server. But a network consisting of 15 cameras constantly recording at the same time will bring these servers down.” According to Reuschling, C-MOR video servers easily manage the information flood.

And there is more: „Besides continuous video surveillance the experimental OP is also in need of input of motion-controlled recordings.” With this technique it is possible to selectively record areas of the video picture that are limited to only a couple of centimetres. “We are able to specifically record the hands of the surgeon or anaesthesiologist only when they are moving.” In this manner it is easy to uncover wrong moves as well as operating errors with technical equipment. Another option is the recording of the table with medical instruments in order to rule out that tweezers or swabs are left in the patient’s abdomen. “By comparing the table situation before and after the operation, an automatic alarm could be set off in case something is missing”, Reuschling describes a possible scenario.

Beware of the camera!

Besides fixed installed video cameras on the walls, the experimental OR is also working with flexible cameras. The digital data is transferred over WLAN, which is not possible in “real” operating rooms due to the radio frequencies. “In the experimental OR cameras can be easily installed – for example at the mounting of an OR lamp”, explains Reuschling. “By the means of WLAN the team at the operating table is able to spontaneously start recordings by only logging into the video server.”

For Dr. Matern the making of these documentations on surgical work are an essential part of the experimental OR. “The costs for treatment of complications that have been caused by operating errors - for intensive care units in Germany alone – are projected at 396 million Euros per year.” Due to this fact one of the main objectives is to identify, quantify and qualify existing problems and their danger potential at work in operating rooms. „The video technique in use plays a significant role”, says Matern. „The incorruptible eye of the camera reveals even the slightest error.“

The Allnet 2281 Wireless IP camera.

This camera is a very in-expensive camera with WLAN and Night Vision feature.

It can be easily installed through DHCP or a network setup program which runs from a PC.

The camera is not yet implemented in the C-MOR Easy web configuration menu, but it will be in the next release.

Why are you doing that?

Why are you doing that? Why are you wasting your time with the installation of a video surveillance software set?

It happens very often; people buy a PC and cheap software for video surveillance over network. After wasting time with the installation they figure out that the surveillance software takes all the computer power away to do video surveillance and something else on the PC. But it comes worse. After a while the PC runs out of disk space. Nice. Another half an hour of work WASTED. But if you think that's it, its coming more worse. After activating a 2nd camera for surveillance they figure out the power of the computer is not good enough at all to record two cameras and they buy a new PC and start over again.

Please - safe your time! It's not worth it to waste time with that stuff. Video surveillance must be a separate server with the right qualified hardware architecture.
